We often receive calls from landscapers, contractors, and home owners asking about rock disposal. Property owners come to a point in time when they want the rocks and gravel used for xeriscaping replaced. They want them to look new again. Which leads to the call…
I need to get rid of a whole bunch of rocks and gravel, how much will it cost?
The quick answer is that is will be expensive. Expensive will be qualified in a minute. First though, the best thing to do is to find someone nearby who is looking for more rock for their property and give it to them. Not easy, but definitely cheaper.

We will recommend you consider how much you have and select from a 10 cubic yard or a 15 cubic yard dumpster. Take measure of your yard, or the area you will be clearing. Length and width will get you approximate surface area. Then consider how deep the material is. If you're working in feet remember that 1 cubic yard is equal to 27 cubic feet. If you have 3 foot by 9 foot area that is 1 foot deep you will have 1 cubic yard of material.
3ft (length) x 9ft (width) x 1ft (depth) = 27 cubic feet = 1 cubic yard
Then consider that different landscaping material have relative weights. Here is a guide, not intended to be used to precision. https://truegload767.weebly.com/cisdem-pdf-converter-5-2-0-download-free.html.
